The free-to-attend Showcase Theatre and Innovation Stage programmes return to IBC2024 with four days of sessions tackling some of the biggest challenges and showcasing the most innovative technologies impacting the media, entertainment and technology sector.
On the Showcase Theatre in Hall 8, technology leaders including TATA Communications Evergent and AWS will be highlighting how their solutions are being used to solve real-world problems, monetise content and create efficiencies.
On Friday 13 September, Evergent will host two sessions. The first will focus on the essential elements of successful business model transformation for direct-to-consumer video services. Discussion will cover topics such as the role of hybrid monetisation strategies, cloud transformation and the disruptive potential of generative AI. Speakers will include representatives from Paramount, Google Cloud and Evergent.
The second session will explore the pitfalls to avoid when deploying a new TV platform. This discussion will feature decades of insights from industry CXOs, with panellists from MediaKind and Evergent.
This will be followed by Media Cartographer Evan Shapiro and RTS CEO Theresa Wise talking business and asking what the fast-shifting TV landscape holds for the UK film & TV community as well as for UK audiences. Wise will also introduce the RTS mini-MBA in television & streaming media.
On Saturday, AWS will host a whole day of sessions on the Showcase Theatre, beginning with ‘Global Streaming Power: Sky and NBCU deliver large-scale live events to Europe and beyond’ at 10:15. Global streaming is the direct-to-consumer (DTC) business unit that emerged from the learnings of Sky’s NOW streaming service in Europe and is responsible for multiple brands, including Peacock, NOW, SkyShowtime and Showmax. The session will offer invaluable insights into the technical achievements behind delivering large-scale live events via a streaming platform.
In ‘Who Moved my Production’ speakers including Ian Munford, AWS; Helen Killeen, Director of Production, ITV Studios; and Simon Green, CEO, Edit Cloud, will share how cloud technology is impacting workflows, helping storytellers to collaborate, access and use new creative tools and improve environmental sustainability.
In the afternoon the focus will shift to Formula 1 with a look at how the sport is leveraging AWS technology to produce the greatest racing spectacle on the planet. Attendees will then be invited to stay and watch the qualifying sessions from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, including live expert predictions, reactions and insights, as well as interactive driving experiences.
How generative AI is transforming the media and entertainment industry by enabling hyper-personalisation, dynamic content and immersive experiences will also discussed in a session that will also cover best practices for selecting, adopting and deploying generative AI technologies into media infrastructure.
On Thursday Zixi kicks off the Showcase Theatre programme with CEO Gordon Brooks welcoming a panel including Grant Nodine from the NHL and Timothy Stevens from Verizon to discuss how Zixi and Verizon are working together to deliver NHL content over 5G networks.
In the afternoon, Jared Timmins, VP of Media Innovation at Diversified, will share details of the company’s new Intelligent Orchestration for Media Production solution and its application in live streaming.
On Monday, the first IBC Talent Programme will take to the Showcase Theatre stage, tackling the big topics of recruiting and retaining talent, and diversity and inclusion.
For those looking to discover the latest insights and innovative projects from manufacturers, software providers, startups and content experts, the Innovation Stage in Hall 3 is also hosting four-days of informative sessions.
Companies taking to the stage include Cisco, Sony, Imagine Communications, Ateliere, Evergent, Avid and Lucid Link.
The Innovation Stage will also welcome the IBC Accelerator Programme with a whole host of groundbreaking projects and proofs of concept being presented throughout the show. This year’s programme tackles everything from the environmental impact of media consumption and ultra-low latency for sport, to disinformation, digital replicas and IP.
